Uninhabited cay east of Culebra. Natural tidal pools (the "Jacuzzi del Mar"), a 19th-century lighthouse ruin, and completely untouched beaches. Off-the-grid Caribbean magic.
Culebrita is a small uninhabited cay just east of Culebra — part of the US Fish and Wildlife refuge and one of the most pristine islands in all of Puerto Rico. With no infrastructure, no people, and no amenities, Culebrita is the real off-the-grid Caribbean experience.
The main attraction is the famous Jacuzzi del Mar — a series of natural tidal pools carved into the rocks where ocean waves splash in and create natural swimming pools. On a calm day, you can sit in the shallow warm water while the ocean churns just feet away. It's unforgettable.
Above the beach stands the historic Culebrita Lighthouse, built in 1886 — the second-oldest operating lighthouse in the Caribbean. A short hike up the hill rewards you with one of the best ocean views in Puerto Rico. Between April and November, the cay is also a nesting ground for sea turtles.
